Gurjit is a duty solicitor and legal head of BD Solicitors. He joined BD Solicitors in 2009 as a trainee solicitor and qualified as a duty solicitor in 2012. Gurjit specialised in advising clients at the police station through to trials in the Magistrates Court and preparation of Crown Court trials for a wide range of matters until 2017.
Gurjit then went to work at the Environment Agency for over 6 years as a Senior Solicitor in the Enforcement and Prosecutions Team. Gurjit advised on criminal investigations and prosecutions in relation to sites operating under exemptions, permits and unpermitted sites. Gurjit has a high degree of experience in cases involving individuals, usually directors, and businesses in industries including waste, COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards), odour, farming and water companies as well as providing training to Environment Agency officers on a range of matters including the use and extent of their powers.
Gurjit is therefore in a unique position in that he has direct insight into Environment Agency cases from the prosecution point of view allowing his clients to benefit from his awareness into the relevant considerations when the Environment Agency conducts investigations, prosecutions and considers out of Court disposals including Enforcement Undertakings and imposing Variable Monetary Penalties (VMPs).
